Our Charity Knit Along

About our Charity Partner SCBU

The NHS Highland Special Care Baby Unit/Neonatal Unit is based next to the labour suite of Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. SCBU provides neonatal care for sick and preterm infants requiring intensive, high dependency and special care.

“We are delighted to be chosen by the Loch Ness Knit Fest this year. It’s a lovely gesture on their part, and comes at just the right time, particularly because the staff at the SCBU are also involved in an international project that requires help providing baby blankets”. Mary Law, senior charge nurse at the Special Care Baby Unit

Fancy knitting some lovely little items for our charity partner Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and a number of their international projects in Uganda, Rwanda and Ghana?

It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s for a great cause.

Here’s their wish list:

  • Large blankets (large enough so that mums don’t have to sit on the floor or so they can keep a child warm and cozy on a childrens ward)
  • Small blankets (for babies)
  • Mitts and booties sets (for babies)
  • Baby Cardigans
  • Baby hats

We’ve added a number of free patterns to our website here.

Thanks to knitters like you, we’ve knitted over 1000 items for our charity partners since Loch Ness Knit Fest first began in 2016. Every item is precious to the person that receives it, so whether you knit one or a whole bundle, you’ll have helped us make a difference.

You can drop items at our collection point at Loch Ness Knit Fest (19th-21st October 2018) or post them to us at Loch Ness Knit Fest, 27 Towerhill Drive, Inverness, IV2 5FD along with a note clearly stating:

– your name and address
– what you’ve knitted
– the date

Our Charity Ambassador
Lynn Benge lives in Carrbridge (Cairngorms) and began knitting around 50 years ago, inspired by her mum. Since then, she’s always had something on her needles, knitting for her children, husband and friends. We met Lynn last year as she’s the President of the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild for Scotland. We’re so pleased to have Lynn on our team for Loch Ness Knit Fest 2018 as our Charity Ambassador.

If you’ve got any questions about our Knit Along for SCBU, please email Lynn at ask@lochnessknitfest.com or give us a call on 01463 564013.

Happy knitting.
